DIY Historic Restoration

Interested in preserving or restoring a historic property? The library has resources to help.
  • Preservation is a quarterly magazine published by the National Trust. The magazine has featured the Red Truck Bakery in Warrenton and other Virginia landmarks.
  • Green Restorations (2010) is a guide to restoring your historic home in an eco-friendly manner.
  • Caring For Your Historic House (1998), from the Heritage Preservation and National Park Service, explains the ins-and-outs of maintaining your historic home.
  • Historical Building Construction (1995) is a comprehensive guide to what you'll find inside the walls of historic structures.
  • View more titles about the conservation of historic buildings. We have books about fabric, wallpapers, masonry, plaster, windows, and other period details.
For articles about home improvement, search our online Home Improvement Collection. This database gives you 24/7 access to articles from home improvement magazines. You can use this resource in the library or at home with your Fauquier County library card.

Happy reading (and restoring)!
