National Craft Month - Start Making Something

March is National Craft Month, making it the perfect time to work on a craft. That beautiful outdoor weather is still some weeks off.  So start a new project, something you've never tried before, or warm up an unfinished project and polish it off.

Why not build some patio furniture in preparation for those wonderful Summer cookouts. Nail together some birdhouses to place around your yard. Take on a larger project and plan an arbor or trellis that will support a climbing shrub or vine. If you have children or grandchildren you can start gathering materials for a clubhouse or treehouse they can "help" you build.  With a little advance preparation work-together projects can be lots of fun.
Brighten up a child's room with a hand made quilt.  You can complete a quilt in is as little as a day with one of these patterns for 24 hour quilts. Try doing some cross stitch pillows to spruce up your living room.  If you're interested in knitting or crocheting you might join the Book 'N Stitchers group at the John Marshall Library on Tuesday's. They have mid-day and evening meetings and are always glad to help those who are just getting started.  You might also check out the various craft classes offered by the Fauquier County Parks and Recreation Department - see their GoodTimes catalog for classes and times.
If you're not sure yet just what kind of craft you want to try come to the library where you’ll find books and DVDs on many popular crafts. Check out our display on crafts or go to the shelves and browse.

Below is a quick list of call numbers for popular craft topics to help you get started.  Jot down the number and browse the shelves next time you come in or click on the links and browse right now:
