November 2013 Consumer Reports: Best of the Year

The Consumer Reports cover story for November 2013 is "Best of the Year" - reviews for over 500 of the year's best appliances, TVs, cameras, computers, and other items.

If you're hungry, check out the reviews for bacon. broths/stocks, and frozen restaurant meals (Boston Market, California Pizza Kitchen, P.F. Chang's, and TGI Friday's).

The section on health care reform includes the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) rankings for 997 private and medicare insurance plans, organized by state.

In the "Cars" section, check out the rating for high-performance tires and car batteries.  There is also a short article on "Safety upgrades for your car":  Mobileye 560 and the Goshers Blind Spot Detection System.

Other useful articles in this issue include:
  • Ratings for leaf blowers
  • Ratings for toasters
  • Ratings for vacuums, upright and canister
Each branch of the Fauquier County Library has the print issues of Consumer Reports from 2009 up to the current issue. The Find It Virginia databases have an index to the issues from February 1, 1976 to the current issue, and the full-text of the reviews from January 1, 1999 to June 1, 2009. You can access Find It Virginia from any library computer, or from home with your valid Fauquier County Public Library card.
