Father's Day Car Show

On June 17, the 16th annual Father’s Day Car Show rolls into Warrenton. Are you a car lover who knows everything about classic cars? Or maybe you’re planning to take someone to the car show and would like to learn more about what makes a car classic. Either way, get ready for the show with a little help from your library.

Do you love muscle cars? Then the 6-disc DVD set The American Muscle Car: The Complete Series is a must. Each half-hour episode is devoted to a particular car, reliving Detroit’s heyday. You just might pick up some new information, and will surely gain a new appreciation of this era in automotive history.

To simply browse through books of beautiful classic cars, turn to Road Hogs: Detroit's Big, Beautiful Luxury Performance Cars of the 1960s and 1970s by Eric Peters, or Mark Holmes’ Ultimate Convertibles: Roofless Beauty. These books celebrate powerful performance and luxury vehicles, as well as some of the most famous cars ever built.

If you’ve wondered about the value of these older cars, or thought you’d like to buy one yourself, stop by the Reference Desk and ask to see the N.A.D.A. Classic, Collectible, Exotic and Muscle Car Appraisal Guide & Directory. This guide is updated three times a year, so the price information is current.

Finally, take a trip back in time with President Truman and his wife, Bess. Read Harry Truman’s Excellent Adventure: The True Story of a Great American Road Trip by Matthew Algeo. This book is a glimpse into a bygone era, when a former President of the United States could get into a car and take a 2,500 mile drive with no Secret Service protection or press coverage.

Now you’re ready for the car show. Take a picnic, enjoy some ice cream and conversation, and have a Happy Father’s Day.
